Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!  Something interesting happened yesterday.  I've lived in my current home now for the last ten years and I have been mailing out all my business transactions for the last ten years at the same "Postnet."   Needless to say, I have spent a lot of time at the Postnet office and I am friends with the owner and he has mailed everything off for me ranging from query letters, to scripts, registrations to the Writer's Guild of America, and so forth.   He is going to retire in October and move to Virginia and I am so happy for him.  He is such a hard worker and only has one day off per week.  I will miss him.  So I am in the office mailing out ten more query letters and he says, "You have to make your millions before I retire and move."  I laughed and told him, "Well, it won't be from these queries.  These are for a picture book and if I am lucky I will get a few thousand dollars and that's if it goes into acquisition."  He smiled politely and listened to my explanation, but I could see his surprise when I told him how much or how little money I could get from selling one book.

Here's the thing, I am not doing this for the money.  As a matter of fact, my entire career hasn't ever been motivated by money.  I love to "story tell", be it through acting, directing a play, movies, writing a song, painting, doing choreography, or through my writing.... I love to tell a story and have it hit with emotional impact, to get people to feel something, to respond to my work.  I love the process of creation.

I've been fortunate to make a modest living with my passions, and yes, it would be nice to transcend to another level in my career, but the last nineteen years of my life pursing the arts has never been about how much money can I make, but rather how many hearts can I affect through my vision.

...and that's today's blog!
