Wrapping up 2006

The last few weeks of my life have been a whirlwind!  Melinda and I just completed the Winter Concert and it was a huge success!  We have a total of about 200 students in our choir program and they did amazing work!!  WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU ALL!!   My writing is going well.  I have been working with an organization called Challenge Day and they were on Oprah in November.  Long story short:  Yvonne Dutra St. John contacted me and we have been talking about working together.  In what capacity....? I'm not sure yet, because the job she had in mind for me, I am not interested in because I believe that I need to continue to focus on my writing and it will take me away from my writing.

On December 6th, I went in to pitch a major motion picture idea, and spin off episodic TV show and the pitch went very well and Yvonne had me present it twice.  I was there from 3:00pm to 7:22pm and it was very exciting!  It was very inspirational to pitch to JoDee Robertson, Rodrigo Torres, Steven Echtman and Yvonne's husband and partner Rich Dutra St. John.  They were all touched by the story and vision. On December 8th, Yvonne called me up to invite me to go with her and Rich to the first meeting with Harpo Productions on Friday December 15th, and of course I said, "YES!"  Then things changed just as fast as it all started.  On Monday December 11th, I went in for a meeting with Yvonne and her daughter Drea, and it turned out that Harpo Productions asked to meet with Yvonne and Rich first to get things started, which makes perfect sense.  This is their life work and my pitch is only one component of a huge campaign to change the world.   I tell you, when this campaign hits... the world WILL start to change for the better, however....

...things changed even faster, as life often does... a dear friend of Yvonne and Rich's family, Richard Carlson, Ph.D, the aurthor of "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" passed away on December 13th.  This was right before Yvonne and Rich were to meet with Harpo Productions.  They canceled their trip and meeting and will go in the New Year.

My heart goes out to the family of Mr. Carlson, Yvonne, Rich and everyone who loved and knew Mr. Carlson.  His work is amazing and so uplifting.  Please send your positive thoughts and prayers to Mr. Carlson's friends and family.

I have lots of projects for 2007.  Number one is to finish the current screenplay I am working on.  My deadline for the first draft is 2/14/07.  During the winter break, I will be sending out several more query letters to publishing houses regarding my children's picture books.  I am also still seeking an agent for my screenplays.  I entered another screenplay competition.  I will be attending more writing workshops and increasing my body of work, so when my opportunity does arrive, I am not a "one hit wonder."  All of this and still working at the high school part-time.  We have several performances to prepare for, including a tour to San Diago.  My oh my, where does the time go?

Stay tuned for the last video blog of the Screenwriting Expo and my process when I create choreography.  Until then, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
